Robust SVM Optimization in Banach spaces

2022-02-17 · Mohammed Sbihi, Nicolas Couellan

We address the issue of binary classification in Banach spaces in presence of uncertainty. We show that a number of results from classical support vector machines theory can be appropriately generalised to their robust counterpart in Banach spaces. These include the Representer Theorem, strong duality for the associated Optimization problem as well as their geometric interpretation. Furthermore, we propose a game theoretic interpretation by expressing a Nash equilibrium problem formulation for the more general problem of finding the closest points in two closed convex sets when the underlying space is reflexive and smooth.

Mirror Descent on Reproducing Kernel Banach Spaces

2024-11-18 · Akash Kumar, Mikhail Belkin, Parthe Pandit

Recent advances in machine learning have led to increased interest in reproducing kernel Banach spaces (RKBS) as a more general framework that extends beyond reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS). These works have res…

Universal Approximation of Nonlinear Operators and Their Derivatives

2026-05-14 · Filippo de Feo arxiv

Establishing Universal Approximation Theorems (UATs) for nonlinear operators and their derivatives is a foundational open problem in Operator Learning (OL) and raises delicate questions in Nonlinear Functional Analysis. …

Learning in Hilbert vs. Banach Spaces: A Measure Embedding Viewpoint

2011-12-01 · NeurIPS 2011 12 · Kenji Fukumizu, Gert R. Lanckriet, Bharath K. Sriperumbudur

The goal of this paper is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of learning in Banach spaces over Hilbert spaces. While many works have been carried out in generalizing Hilbert methods to Banach spaces, in this…

Convex optimization on Banach Spaces

2014-01-01 · R. A. DeVore, V. N. Temlyakov

Greedy algorithms which use only function evaluations are applied to convex optimization in a general Banach space $X$. Along with algorithms that use exact evaluations, algorithms with approximate evaluations are treate…

Approximate Representer Theorems in Non-reflexive Banach Spaces

2019-11-01 · Kevin Schlegel

The representer theorem is one of the most important mathematical foundations for regularised learning and kernel methods. Classical formulations of the theorem state sufficient conditions under which a regularisation pr…
