Segmentation algorithms and modeling of recurrent bursting events in neuronal and glial time series

2024-11-01 · Lou Zonca, Elena Dossi, Nathalie Rouach, D. Holcman

Long-time series of neuronal recordings are resulting from the activity of connected neuronal networks. Yet how neuronal properties can be extracted remains empirical. We review here the data analysis based on network models to recover physiological parameters from electrophysiological and calcium recordings in neurons and astrocytes. After, we present the recording techniques and activation events, such as burst and interburst and Up and Down states. We then describe time-serie segmentation methods developed to detect and to segment these events. To interpret the statistics extracted from time series, we present computational models of neuronal populations based on synaptic short-term plasticity and After hyperpolarization. We discuss how these models are calibrated so that they can reproduce the statistics observed in the experimental time series. They serve to extract specific parameters by comparing numerical and experimental statistical moment or entire distributions. Finally, we discus cases where calibrated models are used to predict the selective impact of some parameters on the circuit behavior, properties that would otherwise be difficult to dissect experimentally.

Rhythmogenesis in the mean field model of the neuron-glial network

2022-11-15 · Nikita Barabash, Tatiana Levanova, Sergey Stasenko

Despite the fact that the phenomenon of bursting activity is important for functioning of living neural networks, the mechanisms of its origin are still not clear. In this paper, we propose a new phenomenological model t…

TransformerLSR: Attentive Joint Model of Longitudinal Data, Survival, and Recurrent Events with Concurrent Latent Structure

2024-04-04 · Zhiyue Zhang, Yao Zhao, Yanxun Xu

In applications such as biomedical studies, epidemiology, and social sciences, recurrent events often co-occur with longitudinal measurements and a terminal event, such as death. Therefore, jointly modeling longitudinal …

Inferring collective synchrony observing spiking of one or several neurons

2025-01-13 · Arkady Pikovsky, Michael Rosenblum

We tackle a quantification of synchrony in a large ensemble of interacting neurons from the observation of spiking events. In a simulation study, we efficiently infer the synchrony level in a neuronal population from a p…

TESPEC: Temporally-Enhanced Self-Supervised Pretraining for Event Cameras

2025-07-29 · Mohammad Mohammadi, Ziyi Wu, Igor Gilitschenski arxiv

Long-term temporal information is crucial for event-based perception tasks, as raw events only encode pixel brightness changes. Recent works show that when trained from scratch, recurrent models achieve better results th…

Discovering dynamical features of Hodgkin-Huxley-type model of physiological neuron using artificial neural network

2022-03-26 · Pavel V. Kuptsov, Nataliya V. Stankevich, Elmira R. Bagautdinova

We consider Hodgkin-Huxley-type model that is a stiff ODE system with two fast and one slow variables. For the parameter ranges under consideration the original version of the model has unstable fixed point and the oscil…
