Surface Electromyographic Analysis of the Forearm in Forehand and Backhand Techniques in Table Tennis Players

2024-07-02 · IEEE EMBS 2024 2024 7 · María Zubiate, Christian Mucha, Jossef Tintaya, Gianni Di Trani

This study focuses on analyzing muscle fatigue in the forearm muscles of table tennis players using surface electromyo- graphy (sEMG). The primary objective is to detect the onset of muscle fatigue during forehand and backhand strokes. sEMG signals were acquired, preprocessed through normalization, and analyzed using the Daubechies 4 (db4) wavelet transform for noise reduction. Feature extraction was performed to identify indicators of fatigue. A portable device was implemented to facilitate data collection, but the main emphasis was on the analysis and interpretation of the sEMG data. The results demonstrate the ability to provide detailed feedback on muscle activation and fatigue, potentially enhancing player performance and injury prevention.

TaskNPoint: How to Teach Your Humanoid to Hit a Backhand in Minutes

2026-06-24 · Blake Werner, Ilona Demler, Pietro Perona, Aaron D. Ames arxiv

How do we learn to hit a tennis backhand? Not from a thousand hours of tennis tournaments on TV - we work with a coach and practice. We argue this is also the right recipe for teaching dynamic skills to humanoid robots. …

Robotic Table Tennis with Model-Free Reinforcement Learning

Continuous Decoding of Daily-Life Hand Movements from Forearm Muscle Activity for Enhanced Myoelectric Control of Hand Prostheses

2021-04-29 · Alessandro Salatiello, Martin A. Giese

State-of-the-art motorized hand prostheses are endowed with actuators able to provide independent and proportional control of as many as six degrees of freedom (DOFs). The control signals are derived from residual electr…

Movement extraction by detecting dynamics switches and repetitions

2010-12-01 · NeurIPS 2010 12 · Silvia Chiappa, Jan R. Peters

Many time-series such as human movement data consist of a sequence of basic actions, e.g., forehands and backhands in tennis. Automatically extracting and characterizing such actions is an important problem for a variety…
