Unified Linearization-based Nonlinear Filtering

2023-09-14 · Anton Kullberg, Isaac Skog, Gustaf Hendeby

This letter shows that the following three classes of recursive state estimation filters: standard filters, such as the extended Kalman filter; iterated filters, such as the iterated unscented Kalman filter; and dynamically iterated filters, such as the dynamically iterated posterior linearization filters; can be unified in terms of a general algorithm. The general algorithm highlights the strong similarities between specific filtering algorithms in the three filter classes and facilitates an in-depth understanding of the pros and cons of the different filter classes and algorithms. We end with a numerical example showing the estimation accuracy differences between the three classes of filters when applied to a nonlinear localization problem.

Iterated Filters for Nonlinear Transition Models

2023-02-27 · Anton Kullberg, Isaac Skog, Gustaf Hendeby

A new class of iterated linearization-based nonlinear filters, dubbed dynamically iterated filters, is presented. Contrary to regular iterated filters such as the iterated extended Kalman filter (IEKF), iterated unscente…

Brief technical note on linearizing recurrent neural networks (RNNs) before vs after the pointwise nonlinearity

2023-09-07 · Marino Pagan, Adrian Valente, Srdjan Ostojic, Carlos D. Brody

Linearization of the dynamics of recurrent neural networks (RNNs) is often used to study their properties. The same RNN dynamics can be written in terms of the ``activations" (the net inputs to each unit, before its poin…

On the Relationship Between Iterated Statistical Linearization and Quasi-Newton Methods

2023-09-14 · Anton Kullberg, Martin A. Skoglund, Isaac Skog, Gustaf Hendeby

This letter investigates relationships between iterated filtering algorithms based on statistical linearization, such as the iterated unscented Kalman filter (IUKF), and filtering algorithms based on quasi-Newton (QN) me…

Data-Driven Feedback Linearization of Nonlinear Systems with Periodic Orbits in the Zero-Dynamics

2022-11-21 · Karthik Shenoy, Akshit Saradagi, Ramkrishna Pasumarthy, Vijaysekhar Chellaboina

In this article, we present data-driven feedback linearization for nonlinear systems with periodic orbits in the zero-dynamics. This scenario is challenging for data-driven control design because the higher order terms o…

Nonlinear Bayesian Filtering with Natural Gradient Gaussian Approximation

2024-10-21 · Wenhan Cao, Tianyi Zhang, Zeju Sun, Chang Liu 외

Practical Bayes filters often assume the state distribution of each time step to be Gaussian for computational tractability, resulting in the so-called Gaussian filters. When facing nonlinear systems, Gaussian filters su…
