Novel Views of Objects from a Single Image

2016-01-31 · Konstantinos Rematas, Chuong Nguyen, Tobias Ritschel, Mario Fritz, Tinne Tuytelaars

Taking an image of an object is at its core a lossy process. The rich information about the three-dimensional structure of the world is flattened to an image plane and decisions such as viewpoint and camera parameters are final and not easily revertible. As a consequence, possibilities of changing viewpoint are limited. Given a single image depicting an object, novel-view synthesis is the task of generating new images that render the object from a different viewpoint than the one given. The main difficulty is to synthesize the parts that are disoccluded; disocclusion occurs when parts of an object are hidden by the object itself under a specific viewpoint. In this work, we show how to improve novel-view synthesis by making use of the correlations observed in 3D models and applying them to new image instances. We propose a technique to use the structural information extracted from a 3D model that matches the image object in terms of viewpoint and shape. For the latter part, we propose an efficient 2D-to-3D alignment method that associates precisely the image appearance with the 3D model geometry with minimal user interaction. Our technique is able to simulate plausible viewpoint changes for a variety of object classes within seconds. Additionally, we show that our synthesized images can be used as additional training data that improves the performance of standard object detectors.

Cascade-Zero123: One Image to Highly Consistent 3D with Self-Prompted Nearby Views

2023-12-07 · Yabo Chen, Jiemin Fang, YuYang Huang, Taoran Yi 외

Synthesizing multi-view 3D from one single image is a significant but challenging task. Zero-1-to-3 methods have achieved great success by lifting a 2D latent diffusion model to the 3D scope. The target view image is gen…

Virtual View Networks for Object Reconstruction

2014-11-22 · CVPR 2015 6 · João Carreira, Abhishek Kar, Shubham Tulsiani, Jitendra Malik

All that structure from motion algorithms "see" are sets of 2D points. We show that these impoverished views of the world can be faked for the purpose of reconstructing objects in challenging settings, such as from a sin…

Single-View Reconstruction via Joint Analysis of Image and Shape Collections

2015-12-01 · ACM Transactions on Graphics 2015 12 · Qixing Huang, Hai Wang, Vladlen Koltun

We present an approach to automatic 3D reconstruction of objects depicted in Web images. The approach reconstructs objects from single views. The key idea is to jointly analyze a collection of images of different objects…

View Extrapolation of Human Body from a Single Image

2018-04-11 · CVPR 2018 6 · Hao Zhu, Hao Su, Peng Wang, Xun Cao 외

We study how to synthesize novel views of human body from a single image. Though recent deep learning based methods work well for rigid objects, they often fail on objects with large articulation, like human bodies. The …

Sparse multi-view hand-object reconstruction for unseen environments

Recent works in hand-object reconstruction mainly focus on the single-view and dense multi-view settings. On the one hand, single-view methods can leverage learned shape priors to generalise to unseen objects but are pro…
