Triangulation: Why Optimize?

2019-07-27 · Seong Hun Lee, Javier Civera

For decades, it has been widely accepted that the gold standard for two-view triangulation is to minimize the cost based on reprojection errors. In this work, we challenge this idea. We propose a novel alternative to the classic midpoint method that leads to significantly lower 2D errors and parallax errors. It provides a numerically stable closed-form solution based solely on a pair of backprojected rays. Since our solution is rotationally invariant, it can also be applied for fisheye and omnidirectional cameras. We show that for small parallax angles, our method outperforms the state-of-the-art in terms of combined 2D, 3D and parallax accuracy, while achieving comparable speed.

TriSearch: Learning to Optimize Triangulations via Bistellar Flips

2026-05-28 · Yiran Wang, Guido Montúfar arxiv

We introduce TriSearch, a reinforcement learning framework for optimizing objectives over triangulations of a polytope via bistellar flips. The key idea is a circuit-supported subtriangulation action representation: feas…

Differentiable Surface Triangulation

2021-09-22 · Marie-Julie Rakotosaona, Noam Aigerman, Niloy Mitra, Maks Ovsjanikov 외

Triangle meshes remain the most popular data representation for surface geometry. This ubiquitous representation is essentially a hybrid one that decouples continuous vertex locations from the discrete topological triang…

Learnable Triangulation of Human Pose

2019-05-14 · ICCV 2019 10 · Karim Iskakov, Egor Burkov, Victor Lempitsky, Yury Malkov

We present two novel solutions for multi-view 3D human pose estimation based on new learnable triangulation methods that combine 3D information from multiple 2D views. The first (baseline) solution is a basic differentia…

Triangulation candidates for Bayesian optimization

2021-12-14 · Robert B. Gramacy, Annie Sauer, Nathan Wycoff

Bayesian optimization involves "inner optimization" over a new-data acquisition criterion which is non-convex/highly multi-modal, may be non-differentiable, or may otherwise thwart local numerical optimizers. In such cas…

The DNA of Calabi-Yau Hypersurfaces

2024-05-14 · Nate MacFadden, Andreas Schachner, Elijah Sheridan

We implement Genetic Algorithms for triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes which induce Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces via Batryev's construction. We demonstrate that such algorithms efficiently optim…
